Homesteaded in 1903

About

In 1876, John T. “Buckskin Johnny” Spaulding and his brother-in-law Thomas Jefferson Davis laid the foundation for a family legacy in Butte County, three miles southeast of present-day Belle Fourche, South Dakota. Their two-story log cabin, now a cherished exhibit at the Tri-State Museum and Visitors Center, was home to Spaulding, TJ Davis, his wife Lucinda (Spaulding) Davis, and their six children.

Fast forward to 1903, and the legacy continued as twin brothers George A. Davis and Alfred “Fred” G. Davis established their ranches in Harding County, South Dakota, near 48 Mile Creek. Fred’s ranch sits about two miles south of the West Short Pines, while George’s is located roughly three miles west of the West Short Pines along the MT-SD border. These homesteads have endured through generations and remain a proud part of our family heritage.

Today, over 100 years later, our family upholds this proud tradition by operating a thriving Black Angus Cattle ranch. Jake and Travis, as the fifth generation on George Davis’ ranch, warmly invite you to experience the beauty of the West Short Pines at Davis Outfitting in Harding County, South Dakota.
